Bringing language learning to life

Gateway 4: information for consortia

Would you like to play a part in bringing our exciting new qualification to life?  The Diploma in Languages and International Communication will be taught from 2011 by local consortia - formed of schools, colleges, universities, employers, local authorities and other stakeholders.  A three-stage selection process, known in 2009/10 as 'Gateway 4', reviews submissions from consortia interested in delivering the Diploma.

Applications

Applications for Gateway 4 closed on 25 November 2009 - results will be announced by early April 2010. A new Gateway process will begin in the autumn of 2010 - if you're interested in getting involved at that stage, look out for more information on this site and the DCSF 14-19 websitePlease note that the Diploma Development Partnership is regrettably unable to handle individual enquiries related to Gateway applications. If you need further support, it is recommended that you contact the 14-19 co-ordinator in the Education department at your local authority.

Guidance for consortia

This core advice document has been created to help consortia in forming and applying successfully to deliver the Diploma in Languages and International Communication. A series of FAQ may also provide answers to any questions.  The DCSF also provides guidance for prospective consortia on the Gateway process, through which they assess proposals for local delivery of the Diploma.

Key documents

Following extensive research and consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, a final Line of Learning Statement (a description of the learning content) and final Line of Learning Criteria (which are used by awarding bodies to develop qualification specifications) were published on 31 July 2009 for the Diploma in Languages and International Communication.  These documents are essential reading for prospective consortia.
